The people behind Tamarackarcade
Tamarackarcade started on a long winter evening when three friends realized they had spent more time arguing about block games than playing them. One of us had grown up on community servers, one had come to voxel games through shooters, and one had only ever built things with dyed wool. The arguments were good. We thought they might be useful to other people too.
The site is named after the tamarack, the larch that grows across much of Canada and turns gold before dropping its needles each autumn. It is a tree that does things a little differently from its neighbours, which felt right for a site about games that do the same. Larkin, our guide, carries that spirit onto every page.
We cover a narrow niche on purpose: voxel sandboxes and blocky shooters you can open in a browser. Six games is a small list, and we keep it small so that each review can be thorough. Every game here was played for weeks, with friends and alone, before a single score was written.
We write for players who want an honest opinion and a sensible place to start. If you disagree with us, or a game has changed since we last played it, we want to hear about it. The site gets better every time a reader writes in.
Play first, write second
No review appears until the game has had weeks of ordinary evenings, at least one group session and a deliberate stretch on the free path.
Scores you can argue with
Every number is tied to a criterion and a reason. We would rather show an uneven score honestly than flatten every game into a comfortable eight.
Facts we checked ourselves
If we could not confirm a feature in play or from a reliable source, it does not appear. Games change, and we revisit them when they do.
